A key element of Kieran's teaching practice is incorporating queer theory into artmaking. Through his practice, Kieran hopes to create community spaces for queer people and to encourage, for everyone, a strengthened sense of identity, love, and community through art.
Queer Makers is a series of workshops designed as a space to allow individuals to learn, discuss, and create art based around the idea queer consciousness.
Queer Makers workshops have been held at Fleisher Art Memorial since April 2025.
In this session, participants learn about how queer artists have used portraiture as a vehicle for exploration and expression. Following this, participants make their own expressive mixed media portraits, taking the chance to explore how they see themselves and how they want to be seen.
In this session, participants learn about the use of art and visuals as forms of activism throughout the history of the LGBTQ rights movement. Then, participants have the opportunity to spread their own message with supplies to make zines and posters.
One of Kieran's biggest passions is for art history, and he believes strongly in storytelling, object-based learning and learning through hands-on making. Kieran believes that history is at it's most effective when it feels the most real, relatable, and alive.
In this two-day lesson taught to students at St. Peter's School, students broadened their understanding of 19th century Impressionist artists by taking their painting supplies outdoors to paint a scene from their every day life, quickly and en plein air. Through this lesson, students were able to combat artistic perfectionism and take the time to appreciate the world around them.
Kieran is also an experienced tour guide and interpreter of historic house museums. Kieran's style of interpretation leans on narration and exploring what stories and objects of the past can tell us about ourselves now.
Kieran is currently giving regular tours at Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, PA.
